Altenew Mixed Media Springtime Wall Art

Welcome to Treasures in Letters.

This month I am being featured at Altenew’s Mixed Media blog. If you would like to check that out click HERE

To make the flowers and leaves I used the ink smooshing technique. The tools I used were Altenew watercolor cardstock, Altenew Rose Petal Re-inker Set, Green Valley re-inker Set, and Green Valley mini ink pads. On my craft mat I put a couple of drops of each color from the Rose Petal re-inker set, added water using a water sprayer and then smooshed the watercolor cardstock into the inks. I dried the watercolor paper with a heat gun and then repeated the process until I was pleased with the colors.

To make the sheets for the green leaves, I used the same process as above except that I started by smooshing ink from the mini ink pads before repeating the process with the re-inkers. Make about five 5.5”x 5.5” sheets. Once the sheets were dry I sprayed some of them with Altenew Antique Gold ink spray.

Once the pink and green sheets were dry, I used the Altenew Poinsettia 3D Die Set to die cut 3 sets of pink flowers (die cut the small centers using Altenew Warm Sunshine Cardstock from the Summer Afternoon Gradient Cardstock Set). I cut another 10 small pink flowers and Warm Sunshine centers. I used a shimmer pen, outline centers of flowers and leaf lines.

Cut a variety of green leaves using the largest dies from the Poinsettia die set and about 5 of the smallest of the Poinsettia die (to put behind the small flowers).

Behind each pink flower piece glue very thin wire to the center of each petal. See photo. If necessary, hold down the wire with low tack tape until the glue is dry, then remove.

Using Altenew Moonrock cardstock and Altenew Just Leaves Die Set, cut six sets of the largest leaf die. Stamp these die cuts using Altenew Silver Lake crisp dye ink and Altenew Birch Forest Stamp set. Using the same large die, cut six more sets out of the green inked water color cardstock.

Using Altenew Bold Alphabet Die and white cardstock, cut out four sets of the words: live, love, laugh. Layer each letter four times.

Using a stained wood frame (from any craft store), splatter with white paint. Once the paint dries lay out the words, live, laugh, love, so that they are centered. Glue down using liquid glue. Layer the stamped leaves over the green leaves, making six sprays. Glue down using liquid glue.

Arrange the sprays into a circle around the words. Loosely glue down. You want the sprays to be loose and look free.

Make three flowers from the die cuts. Arrange the flowers at bottom of wreath. Glue in place. Arrange large green leaves under the flowers and glue in place.

Make six small flowers from the die cuts and glue together with centers. Place around the wreath using a few small green leaves around the flowers. Using liquid glue, glue in place.

Love & Hope Mixed Media Wall Art

featuring Altenew products

Hello and Welcome back to Treasures in Letters! Today I am featuring a basically, monochromatic, wall hanging with an encouraging message of Love & Hope. It was pretty easy to make and I hope it inspires you to think of something that will be an encouragement to those around you.

The following photo shows most of the products that I used to make my project. (The frame came from a local craft store.)

Heat embossing and paint splattering.

To start, I used embossing ink and the Altenew Splatter stencil and heat embossed my frame with white Altenew embossing powder. I then splattered my frame with both white and jet black Altenew ink sprays.

I then had fun cutting out leaves the using the Altenew Leaf Mix Die Set and Essential Black & White Paper Pack. Using white cardstock, I then cut two more layers for each leaf to add bulk . I also used black cardstock to layer the leaves that had a prominent black background.

I cut four of each letter from the Altenew Caps Bold Alphabet Die Set and three layers of the heart shape, cut from Altenew Red cardstock and Altenew Festive Foliage. I put a layer of glossy accents on top of the heart die cut.

Thank you for stopping by. Be well and spread some love & hope!

There’s MORE! What’s a hop without YOU?! We have included an Inlinkz at the Altenew blog for you to enter your gorgeous Altenew “Old/New Favorite Altenew Stamp” creations. We will pick 2 of our favorite handmade creations from those who joined the linky party and they will each receive a $15 Altenew gift certificate!

My two cards today feature the Altenew Pinstripe Stamp. It is a background stamp that I use over and over again when I need to fill in empty spaces on a card or turn it and make little diamonds/squares.

My first card features Altenew’s Pinstrip Stamp and Layered Plaid Cover Die A.

So easy to make, this card is clean & simple, striking and bold. To recreate it, begin by stamping a 4 1/4″x 5 1/2″ card face with Altenew’s Pinstripe stamp with Obsidian black pigment ink. Then die cut, out of black cardstock, the Altenew Layered Plaid Cover Die A (a favorite of mine 🙂 ). For added depth you can cut the cover die out another 2-3 times and glue them together. Die cut the “hello” using Altenew’s Hello and Hugs Die Set using Altenew Red cardstock and the shadow out of white cardstock. Cut the “hello” another 2-3 times to add depth and glue all layers together. Cut a vellum circle just slightly larger than the hello die cut (appx 2″ circle). It’s just that simple. 🙂

Altenew’s cardstocks are gorgeous in color and a great weight. If you have not given them a try, I highly recommend them. All supplies will be listed at the end of my blog post.

My second card features the following Altenew products: Pinstripe Stamp, Candy Cane Stripe Cover Die, Floral Art Stamp and Die Set, and Waterbrush Hello Die. All supplies will be listed at the end of the blog.
This card was a lot of fun to make. I started out by stamping Altenew’s Pinstripe Stamp using Altenew’s Antique Gold Pigment ink and heat embossing with Altenew’s Antique Gold embossing powder. See the detail in this photo.

I then stamped the Pinstripe stamp on a white card face with Altenew Antique Gold Pigment Ink. Once it was dry, I turned the stamp and stamped it again on the card face. This created a crisscross look on the face of the card. I used the Candy Cane Stripe Cover Die and cut the crisscross face card with the cover die. I cut the cover die two more times out of plain white cardstock and glue the three layers together leaving some of the thinner lines loose with little to no glue on them (they will be held down by the flower and sentiment). Glue down the layered die cuts to the heat embossed panel you made in step 1.

Cut the sentiment 3 times out of black card stock and glue the three layers together. Stamp the largest flower from the Floral Art Stamp Set. Stamp the outline out of Antique Gold Pigment Ink and heat emboss with Altenew Clear embossing powder. Stamp first layer with Antique Gold Pigment Ink, repeat if necessary. Stamp center of flower with the Antique Gold ink but then heat emboss with Rose Gold embossing powder. Place flower in lower right corner of card front and glue sentiment down. I hope you liked the cards.

Happy Birthday!

Featuring Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plates

Welcome! May your day be special in some way today. For me, today is my daughter’s birthday and this is a card I made for her. The card is beautiful, shiny and colorful (in person). I’ve included a number of pictures today in hopes that combined, they might capture some of the beauty of the original.

This card is very easy to make. You start by using Rose Gold Foil to foil the center circle from Spellbinders Glimmer Foil Plate: Foliage Border. Step 2 is to use the foliage border and royal blue (matte finish) foil, using your Glimmer Hot Foil system, foil 4 times, around the center circle.

The sentiment is from Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Yana’s Sentiments, and it was foiled with royal blue foil (matte finish), then die cut. I die cut the sentiment 3 more times out of white cardstock and glued and stacked them for definition.

I foiled some flowers and leaves from green mirror and phantom purple (iridescent material pattern) foils.

Can you see the foil shining in the light?
The center flower on wreath was adhere it to card using foam dots to add dimension.

Supplies: Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Yana’s Sentiments; Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Foliage Border (GLP-149); Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil: Green GLF-021 (mirror finish); Go Press and Foil foils: Royal Blue (matte finish), Phantom purple (iridescent material pattern), Rose gold bright foil (iridescent shavings pattern); foam glue dots (for the sentiment and flowers).

Valentine Wishes

Hello there! I have never been a big Valentine’s Day card maker but this year has been different. With all the social distancing we have been doing for almost a year now, I miss “sharing the love” with hugs and affection. When you can’t do that with a physical hug then a hand made card can be the next best thing. 🙂

This card is so pretty in person!! I hope to be able to show you thru multiple pictures some of the beauty in this card.

One of the features of the card is the center heart. I found this among my stash, cut from some pattern paper I had at some point. It is an ivory color so it sets itself apart from the white background. The white cardstock front was ink splattered with Altenew’s Jet Black Ink Spray, after I used Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Woven and Go Press and Foil: Clear Foil (iridescent finish).

The flowers and leaves were cut using Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Calligraphy Hearts and a card that I had done some alcohol inking on a long time ago. The alcohol inks I used were from Marabu: Olive Green and Garnet.

This was such an easy card to make and so pretty! I hope you liked it!

The supplies I used: Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System, Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Woven and Calligraphy Hearts; Go Press and Foil: Clear Foil (iridescent finish); Altenew Jet Black Ink Spray; Hero Arts Nested Rounded Rectangle Dies; My Favorite Things Stitched Heart STAX; Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy Add on & Dies; My Favorite Things Int Rect Word Window; Hero Arts Ultra Fine Clear Embossing Powder; Versafine Onyx Black Pigment Ink; Marabu Alcohol Inks: Olive Green and Garnet Red; WOW! Happy Valentine’s Day Cards with Spellbinders Calligraphy Hearts

Good Morning! Today I have two cards to share for Valentine’s Day. They both have the same basic layout but with a couple of slight differences.

Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plates: Calligraphy Hearts and Perfect Fit Hexagon Strips are the highlights of today’s cards. Both of them have been Glimmer Kits of the Month at Spellbinderspaperarts.com .

To deepen the color of this fuschia card stock, I used Altenew’s Purple Wine crisp dye ink and an ink blending brush to blend the ink onto the exposed areas of the fuschia card stock.
I used the pink glimmer hot foil on the hexagon strips and the deeper, magenta foil on the hearts. Black foil was used for the sentiment in both the cards.
All the hearts and hexagon shapes were foiled with deep red foil.
The center heart was glued to the vellum heart and the vellum heart was mounted to the card with foam tape to elevate it, add texture and depth.

The supplies I used in these cards include: Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Calligraphy Hearts and Perfect Fit Hexagon Strips; Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil: GLF-006 (Pink) and GLF-039 (Magenta); Go Press and Foil: Deep Red Foil (mirror) and Midnight Black Foil (yellow matte finish); Altenew Red Card stock; My Favorite Things Stitched Heart STAX; Fuschia card stock; Altenew Purple Wine Crisp Dye Ink.

Thanks A Bunch: featuring Altenew’s Pressed Leaf Die

I am so excited about my card today! Ever since I got Altenew’s Pressed Leaf Die I could picture it with alcohol inks. Well, I finally had a chance to play with it and use some alcohol inks with it. My inspiration came from fall leaves and how they can have multiple colors displayed in them as they change and get ready to fall off.

This card is square and larger than usual. It is 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.

I began this card by stamping my vase with one layer of Altenew’s Autumn Blaze Crisp Dye ink and 2 layers of Altenew’s Firebrick Crisp Dye ink. I then used a finger sponge dauber to apply Altenew’s Antique Gold Pigment ink to the stamp and stamping it over the Firebrick. I repeated this process (with the antique gold pigment ink) a couple of times until it looked the way I wanted it to. I then die cut the vase so that I could use it to plan the rest of my card.

Using a 6″x6″ piece of white card stock, I stamped 2-3 times using Altenew’s Rustic Linen Stamp and embossing ink. Once this was dry I planned where my leaf branches would be cut and die cut them. When doing this, you do cut into the left and right branches just a bit. It does not affect the finished product. Cut down your card front to 5 1/4″ across and 5 1/8″ down.

Next I chose some alcohol inks in colors that I see in fall leaves, some Yupo paper and 91% isopropyl alcohol and started moving the colors around with an air brush. I used a couple of sheets of Yupo paper until I had some designs that I thought I could use. Taking the Altenew Pressed Leaf Die, I cut the image out 3 times from the alcohol inked Yupo paper and then fussy cut the whole branch out. I also creased the center of each branch where the die cut leaves an impression. Each branch is then glued to the white card stock that was cut earlier. I glued the center branch last.

I tied a small bow at the mouth of the vase using gold thread then mounted the vase onto the card front using foam tape. The sentiment was made with Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System and Rose Gold Foil (vintage matte finish). I then mounted the card front to a piece of black card stock 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. This was then mounted onto a 5 1/2″x 5 1/2″ #110 white cardstock base.

The supplies I used are as follows: Altenew Mod Vases Stamp & Die; Altenew Rustic Linen Stamp Set; Altenew Pressed Leaf Die; Altenew Embossing Ink; Altenew Antique Gold Pigment Ink; Altenew Crisp Dye Inks – Autumn Blaze and Firebrick; Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System; Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Everyday Sentiments II; Yupo paper; Lawn Fawn Every Day Sentiment Banners; Marabu Alcohol Inks: Agave, Cinnamon, Metallic Copper; 91% Isoproply Alcohol

An Ugly Sweater Design to say “Merry Christmas”

Hi there! … and yes, I am still making some Christmas cards and I’m still playing with hot foil glimmer plates by Spellbinders. 🙂

Today I am just posting one picture of my card. Keeping it simple and easy. I hope you like it.

This card was so easy to make. From the Christmas Sweater Borders Hot Glimmer Plate, choose the plates and patterns you want to use. Choose the foil colors you would like to use and foil according to your Hot Glimmer System. Foil a sentiment and cut out in an oval. Cut another oval out of vellum slightly larger than your sentiment. Glue your sentiment oval onto your vellum oval. Then center your sentiment and fasten it to the card using foam tape.

Supplies used in my card today include: Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Christmas Sweater Borders (GLP-192); Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil: Red (GOF Jan 21), Gold, Veridian Green (GLF-021); Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Yana’s Christmas Sentiment; Hero Arts Infinity Dies Nested Frame Rounded Rectangle; My Favorite Things In & Out Stitched Oval; Altenew Red Cardstock; Vellum.
