Altenew Mixed Media Springtime Wall Art

Welcome to Treasures in Letters.

This month I am being featured at Altenew’s Mixed Media blog. If you would like to check that out click HERE

To make the flowers and leaves I used the ink smooshing technique. The tools I used were Altenew watercolor cardstock, Altenew Rose Petal Re-inker Set, Green Valley re-inker Set, and Green Valley mini ink pads. On my craft mat I put a couple of drops of each color from the Rose Petal re-inker set, added water using a water sprayer and then smooshed the watercolor cardstock into the inks. I dried the watercolor paper with a heat gun and then repeated the process until I was pleased with the colors.

To make the sheets for the green leaves, I used the same process as above except that I started by smooshing ink from the mini ink pads before repeating the process with the re-inkers. Make about five 5.5”x 5.5” sheets. Once the sheets were dry I sprayed some of them with Altenew Antique Gold ink spray.

Once the pink and green sheets were dry, I used the Altenew Poinsettia 3D Die Set to die cut 3 sets of pink flowers (die cut the small centers using Altenew Warm Sunshine Cardstock from the Summer Afternoon Gradient Cardstock Set). I cut another 10 small pink flowers and Warm Sunshine centers. I used a shimmer pen, outline centers of flowers and leaf lines.

Cut a variety of green leaves using the largest dies from the Poinsettia die set and about 5 of the smallest of the Poinsettia die (to put behind the small flowers).

Behind each pink flower piece glue very thin wire to the center of each petal. See photo. If necessary, hold down the wire with low tack tape until the glue is dry, then remove.

Using Altenew Moonrock cardstock and Altenew Just Leaves Die Set, cut six sets of the largest leaf die. Stamp these die cuts using Altenew Silver Lake crisp dye ink and Altenew Birch Forest Stamp set. Using the same large die, cut six more sets out of the green inked water color cardstock.

Using Altenew Bold Alphabet Die and white cardstock, cut out four sets of the words: live, love, laugh. Layer each letter four times.

Using a stained wood frame (from any craft store), splatter with white paint. Once the paint dries lay out the words, live, laugh, love, so that they are centered. Glue down using liquid glue. Layer the stamped leaves over the green leaves, making six sprays. Glue down using liquid glue.

Arrange the sprays into a circle around the words. Loosely glue down. You want the sprays to be loose and look free.

Make three flowers from the die cuts. Arrange the flowers at bottom of wreath. Glue in place. Arrange large green leaves under the flowers and glue in place.

Make six small flowers from the die cuts and glue together with centers. Place around the wreath using a few small green leaves around the flowers. Using liquid glue, glue in place.

Christmas Cards – Day 5

Only 3 days to Christmas, how are you doing? Do you have any more shopping to do? How about the wrapping? Is that done yet? 🙂

Today, I am featuring Neat & Tangled again. This time I am featuring their Scandinavian Prints Stamp & Die Set. It came out last year and I really have fun with it. The cards today resemble yesterday’s because the Tree Trio stencil compliments the Scandinavian Prints set and I used Catherine Pooler Inks on these cards, just as I did in yesterday’s featured cards .

Here is a picture of the whole set together and then you will see a picture of each card individually.

Each of the cards uses the following materials: Neat & Tangled Scandinavian Prints Christmas Stamp & Die Set, Gina K Designs Amalgum Ink, Brutus Monroe Icicle Embossing Powder, Altenew Gold Embossing Powder, Versamark Ink, Ranger Silver Embossing Powder, Deco Foil in Gold, Pink Melon, Aqua (in some of the pictures the foil looks like black ink), Simon Says Stamps Wonky Rectangle Die, Craft Foam, and Catherine Pooler Inks: Tiki Torch, All That Jazz, Grass Skirt, Lime Rickey, Party Dress, and Flirty Fuschia.

Here’s a look at each one individually.

Glory to the new born King!

Have a blessed day!

Christmas Cards – Day 4

Christmas blessings everyone! Yesterday I had the fun of picking out some chocolates to put in my family’s stockings. A little something different for each person, courtesy of Hilliard’s Chocolates in Mansfield, MA. What I love the most about shopping there is that they give out free samples while you walk around and shop. Yummy!

Today I have 4 cards that feature Neat & Tangled‘s Tree Duo Stencils. This stencil came out in 2017 and I had so much fun using them last Christmas that I went right to them this year.

Take a look.

These bright and cheerful cards were made using Catherine Pooler inks.

I will post an individual picture of each of these cards but will do only one write up of the materials I used. All cards use Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest #80 and/or #110 card stock. (The center card has green cardstock also.) The sentiments were chosen from Neat & Tangled Joyful Sentiments Stamps and My Favorite Things Handwritten Holiday Stamp Set.

All the cards feature Catherine Pooler inks in the following colors: Lime Rickey, Grass Skirt, Flirty Fuschia, Party Dress, Tiki Torch and Versafine Onyx Black Ink (for the sentiments).

The special features of this card are from Honey Bee Stamps Winter Wonder Background Stencils, Dream Weaver Embossing Paste, WOW opague Bright White Embossing Powder, Craft Smart White Acrylic Paint.
This card features Neat & Tangled Tree Duo Stencils, Neat & Tangled Joyful Sentiments, Honey Bee Stamps Winter Wonder Background Stencils, Nuvo Glimmer Paste, and My Favorite Things In & Out Stitched Rounded Rectangles.
This card features My Favorite Things In & Out Stitched Oval Stax, Neat & Tangled Sequins, craft foam, and Imagine Crafts Sparkle Shimmer Spray.

The last card I am featuring today was not pictured in the trio but has the same characteristics as the trio of cards.

This card features Honey Bee Stamps Deckle Edge Die, Carta Bella Snowfall A2 Stamp, Brutus Monroe Alabaster Embossing Powder, My Favorite Things Handwritten Holiday Stamp, Versamark Ink, and Hot Pink card stock.

Thank you for stopping by and letting me show you what I’ve been up to. 🙂

Christmas Cards – Day 3

Hello and Merry Christmas to all! Are you ready for Christmas yet? I got a lot of my wrapping done Tue. night, thanks to my husband…he’s such a big help. I don’t think I’ve ever had my wrapping done so early. 😉

Today I am featuring a card trio using Altenew‘s Starry Night Stamp Set. This is a beautiful holiday stamp and die set that I have used over and over this holiday season. Though each card’s layout is the same, I used some different materials in each one.

In person, each of these cards is like looking out through a snow crusted window pane.

The first card, center in the above photo, features Ranger’s red embossing powder.

Ranger Distress Inks and Oxide Inks set the background of the card base. Layers of heat embossing are used to create the starry, snowy effect on the sides.

To create the background on the card base I used Bristol White card stock and Ranger Distress Oxide inks (for the first layer): Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon, Faded Jeans and Black Soot. I blended the colors together using a mini blending tool and worked my way from the outside edges toward the center. For the second layer, I blended using Ranger Distress inks: Faded Jeans, Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire, Tumbled Glass, and Black Soot (Oxide). I was hoping to deepen the colors using the Distress inks over the Oxide inks.

The next step was to start layering the embossing powders using the Altenew Starry Night Stamp Set. My first layer was using Lawn Fawn White embossing powder, followed with Ranger Gold, silver and red embossing powders. I then rubbed the edges of the card using Versamark ink and used white embossing powder to crust the edges. For the sentiment I used Brutus Monroe’s Alabaster embossing powder and for the star, Altenew Gold embossing powder.

To achieve the wavy affect with the white embossed frame of the card, I used Fiskar’s Deckle Tear Edger as a guide for the Versamark ink.

This card features Ranger’s Snowflake Tinsel embossing powder.

This card was actually the first one that I made out of the three. I used only Distress Oxide inks on it and found that the background was not as deep in color as I would have liked. This is why I chose to use both Distress and Oxides together in the last card (which was the first one I featured today). 🙂

My materials were: Bristol card stock for the card base; Distress Oxide inks: Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon, Faded Jeans, Black Soot; Altenew Starry Night Stamp Set, Altenew Gold embossing powder, Ranger Snowflake Tinsel embossing powder, Brutus Monroe Silver embossing powder, navy blue card stock for frame, and craft foam.

This card also features Ranger Snowflake Tinsel embossing powder.

Ok, I have to admit that this card had a few experiments going on with it. It was the second one I tried out so I wanted to make it a little different from the first one (pictured above this card)… so I added a few extra snowflake bunches at the top of the card to see how they would look, then I worked on deepening the background color after the embossing was crusted on it. My takeaway on this is to use a brighter embossing powder for the sentiment. It will stand out better. It is beautiful just the same.

I have enjoyed the uniqueness of each card and the new things I learned along the way.

Have a wonderful day and take some time to be still and enjoy some peace and quiet, it will revive and energize you.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Cards – Day 2

Hello out there! Merry Christmas!!

Today I am even more ambitious, than yesterday, with five cards using one main stamp set. Today’s featured stamp set is Concord & 9th’s Snowflakes Turnabout Stamp Set. I love this stamp set and will continue to make cards with it throughout the winter months ahead.

Let me show you my first card.

This card features Concord & 9th Snowflakes Turnabout Stamp Set, Altenew Crisp Dye Inks, and Neat & Tangled Wishing You Love Stamp Set

The materials I used to create this card are as follows: Concord & 9th Snowflakes Turnabout Stamp Set, Altenew Crisp Dye Inks: Sea Breeze, Dew Drops, Aqualicious, Turquoise, and Starlight, Glossy Accents, Imagine Crafts Sparkle Shimmer Spray, Neat & Tangled Wishing You Love Stamp Set and Neat & Tangled Sequins, Craft Foam.

The second card I have is the exact same layout only using Altenew Crisp Dye Inks in the following colors: Pink Pearl, Rouge, Blush, Coral Bliss and Vineyard Berry.

My third card has an oval stitched cut out as the center focal point with snowflakes dancing around the edges.

This beautiful card has snowflake accents with small sequin centers and Gina K Crystalline Drops.

Here are the materials I used to make this card: Concord & 9th Snowflakes Turnabout Stamp Set, My Favorite Things In & Out Stitched Oval STA Dies, Neat & Tangled Wishing You Love Stamp Set, My Favorite Things Snowflakes Dies, Altenew Crisp Dye Inks: Sea Breeze, Dew Drops, Aqualicious, and Turqouise, Brutus Monroe Alabaster Embossing Powder, Versamark Ink, Aqua cardstock, Craft Foam, Pretty Pink Posh Sequins, Gina K Crystalline Drops, and Imagine Crafts Shimmer Spritz Sparkle.

The next card’s special feature is a Rose Gold Foiled sentiment on vellum.

The Rose Gold foiled sentiment on vellum was made using the Go Press and Foil Machine by Couture Creations.

This card used Altenew Crisp Dye Ink: Dew Drops, Concord & 9th Snowflakes Turnabout Stamp Set, Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Plate: Making Spirits Bright, Rose Gold Bright Foil for Go Press and Foil, In & Out Stitched Oval from My Favorite Things, #65 Vellum, Craft Foam, Neenah Solar White Classic Crest #80, #110 cardstock and Neat & Tangled Sequins.

My last card for today is playful and fun. I used pink embossing powder to stamp the snowflakes.

Merry Christmas! Let it snow!!

Here are the materials I used to make this card: Concord & 9th Snowflakes Turnabout Stamp Set, Nuvo Ballerina Pink Embossing Powder, Versamark Ink, Honey Bee Stamps Snow Buddies Stamp & Die Set, Copic Markers: B00, R46, YR04, YR07; Brutus Monroe Alcohol Marker 370, Gina K Amalgum Ink, Red Card Stock, My Favorite Things Snowflakes Dies, Black cardstock, Pretty Pink Posh flat irredescent sequins, Ranger Distress Oxide Inks: Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass, Penny Black Merry Christmas Die and Neenah Solar White Classic Crest #80, #110 cardstock.

After heat embossing the snowflakes on #80 Neenah Solar White cardstock I used the Distress Oxides to blend on the background. I splattered the background with water before adhering the snowman, snowflakes and sentiment.

Oh, what fun….

Christmas Cards – Day 1

Hello and welcome to Day 1 of my Christmas Card posts. Last month as I set my mind to making some Christmas cards, it was my goal to try to use a new stamp and/or die set in multiple ways, rather than just make one card and then move on to another stamp set.

With this in mind, here are today’s cards. The featured stamp/die set is from Avery Elle: Snow Tags. You can find this stamp set at Ellen Hutson.

I stamped the ornament on Neenah Solar White Classic Crest #80 cardstock with Delicata Silvery Shimmer pigment ink. I also used Sunny Studio Stamps Holiday Style pine branches and stamped them once using Altenew’s Crisp Dye Ink in Evergreen and then once with Olive, shifting the stamp just slightly so that both colors were visible. I used the ornament’s die to cut it out, propped it up with foam tape and used Simon Says Stamps Wonky Rectangles Die to frame the card base. The bow was cut from cardstock that was colored using Versafine Clair ink: Glamorous, using Hero Arts’ Infinity Dies – Nested Cuts Ornaments. The sequin embellishments are from Pretty Pink Posh. I also used some silver thread to make the ornament look as though it was hanging on the tree.

This card was simple and easy to make.

The second card for today is another simple, clean and easy to make card, using a few of the same materials as the first card.

This card has a lovely background of snowflakes created from Carta Bella’s Snowfall (A2) stamp and white embossing powder from Stampendous.

The materials used in this card are: Avery Elle Snow Tags Stamp and Die Set; Hero Arts Infinity Dies – Nested Cuts Ornaments; Delicata Silvery Shimmer Pigment Ink; Carta Bella Snowfall A2 Stamp, Versamark Ink, Stampendous White Embossing Powder, Versafine Clair Ink – Glamorous, Craft Foam, and Neenah White Classic Crest Solar White cardstock in #80 and #110. I also used a Wink of Stella glitter pen on the ornament to add some sparkle and shine (I did this after the picture was taken.) The card base for this card is 3 3/4″ x 5″.

My third card using this same, Avery Elle Snow Tags Stamp and Die Set is a little more colorful yet still, simple, clean and easy to make.

I added color to the ornament using Zig Clean Color Markers in May Green and Wine. Rather than cutting the ornament out, I dry embossed it with the die.

This card was made with the same materials as the card above it with the addition of Versafine Onyx Black Ink, Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder, and Hero Arts Peace Love & Joy Stamp Set. The edges of the card base were colored by rubbing the Versafine Glamorous ink pad across the edges of the base on all four sides.

Well, I hope you like the cards.
