Hi there and welcome back to Treasures in Letters! Today’s card features Ranger Distress Oxide inks and Birch Press’ Wishing Mandala Stamp & Stencils. I’ve entered this card in Virginia Lu’s Show & Share May 2019.
When I finished adding the Distress Oxide inks thru the stencils (using Life Changing Blender brushes), the black outlines had faded and I had already removed the stamp from the Misti stamping tool, so I was stuck in my ability to re-stamp the outlines. I had to find another way to brighten the background and the colors.
What I decided to do was spray the background with Thermoweb‘s Irridescent Glitter Dust. It deepened all the colors and gave the background a beautiful shimmer. You can see the shimmer if you look closely at the photo above. To add more shine and some depth, I added Glossy Accents to the black outlines in the “miss you” sentiment.
Supplies: Birch Press Wishing Mandala Stamp and Stencils, Gina K Amalgum Ink, Ranger Distress Oxides: Mustard Seed, Broken China, Worn Lipstick, Seedless Preserves, AltenewInvisible Alpha, Ranger Glossy Accents, Black card stock, Neenah Solar White Classic Crest #80, #110.
Today’s entry is from the “stash” that I accumulated while working on my Altenew Educator Certificate. Many times I’d work on something and then get caught up in seeing the imperfections rather than the overall beauty in the project. As I use my “stash,” I am trying to be less critical and more appreciative…enjoying the challenge of bringing out the best rather than dwelling on imperfection.
The secret of this technique is that you use Versamark ink and clear embossing powder on the colored card stock, then, on the white card stock, you use an ink color to match the colored card stock, then clear heat emboss over the colored ink.
Supplies: Altenew Bamboo Rose Stamp Set, Altenew Inks: Dew Drops, Aqualicious, Teal Cave, Galactic Stream, Ranger “Greetings” Stamp Set, Altenew Crystal Clear Embossing Powder, Prismacolor Pencils: Aquamarine (PC905), Light Green (PC920), Cobalt Turquoise (PC105), Versamark Ink, Teal Cardstock, Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest #80, #110 cardstock, Craft Foam, Neat & Tangled Sequins, a rectangle frame die of your choice.
How to make it: Using a stamping tool such as a Misti (My Sweet Petunia), place your white card stock (4.25″x5.5″) into the Misti and arrange your floral stamps around the top and one side so that when you turn your card stock the pattern will repeat and connect edge to edge. (I hope that made sense.) Stamp using the Galactic Stream ink. Repeat if necessary. Clean stamp and let the white card stock dry. Take turquoise card stock and place in Misti. Use an anti-static powder tool on the card stock to prepare it for heat embossing. Using Versamark Ink stamp the floral arrangement onto the colored card stock. Emboss with clear embossing powder. Turn card stock and repeat so that the floral pattern goes all the way around the card stock.
Put the white card stock back into the Misti, prep it with an anti-static powder tool. Using Versamark Ink re-stamp the white card stock and clear heat emboss (you are doing this over your first stamping with the colored ink).
Using a rectangle frame die, cut a frame out of both the floral card stock pieces. Placing the white card stock back into the Misti, center your sentiment. As you ink up the sentiment, start with the lightest color ink and move from lightest to darkest on your stamp. Repeat this process, if necessary, to deepen the color. This should give you an ombre affect for your sentiment. Adhere the card front to a card base of #110 Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest card stock. Embellish with sequins.
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I hope you have a great day…and remember, don’t focus on the imperfections…look for the beauty. 🙂
How to make it: Take a piece of Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest #80 cardstock and stamp, in black ink, the Altenew Pinstripe Stamp. On another piece of #80 white cardstock trace a circle in the center of the card. Use the outline to stamp flowers around. Use masking paper in places where you want to stamp close to/over a flower next to it. Stamp some leaf branches, using making paper as needed. Using the nesting circle dies, cut out the circle (you traced) leaving the flowers to look as though they are a wreath. Trim card down to 4″x5.25″. Using the card front, position Love & Hugs stamp in center of a 4.25″x5.5″ (Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest #110) card base; stamp in Versafine Onyx black ink and heat emboss with Altenew crystal clear embossing powder. Cut 2 half-inch strips off the pinstripe card you stamped. (Save the remainder of the card for another project.) Place 1 strip of the pinstripe on each side of the card base (made of #110 Neenah Solar White cardstock) then adhere the card front onto card base.
My card today was inspired by Kelly Latevola, a designer at Neat & Tangled (April 29, 2019 post at Neat & Tangled). She added to the original floral heart with other small floral stamps. The idea was great so I tried it for myself…and I just love how it came out. Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there….and to the future mom’s of this world!!
Supplies: Neat & Tangled Floral Heart, Honey Bee Stamps Country Wreath, Ultimate Crafts Ooh La La Collection, Purple card stock, green card stock, Pretty Pink Posh flat, clear sequins, Brutus Monroe Alcohol Markers: 672, 652, Copic Markers: G02, G09, G19, YG09, YG17, Y19, Y38, R35, E23, E33, E15, B02, RV13, RV02, RV04, BG15, BG1, V09, V06, V04; Gina K Amalgum ink, Altenew Simple Alpha Dies, and Ranger Glossy Accents.
How I Made It: I started by stamping the floral heart onto Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest, #80 card stock and then making a mask of the floral wreath and putting it in place. I added extra flowers, pine cones and leaf branches to the floral wreath. I then colored the wreath with copic and other alcohol markers. I cut out the word, mom, from black card stock using Altenew Bold Alphabet Dies. After gluing the sentiment in place, I embellished the letters with Ranger glossy accents. I then layered the card front with a layer of purple card stock followed by a piece of green card stock. I then mounted the card front to a card base made with Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest, #110 card stock and embellished it with some clear, flat sequins.
I really love how this card came out. I hope you enjoyed it too.
Here’s a Mother’s Day card with “Mom” hidden within it. Can you see it? I was going to save this post for Saturday but decided, why wait?!
The following picture makes it easier to see the word “mom” within the background. I love using this technique.
Supplies: Altenew Bold Alpha Dies, Simon Says Stamps Cosmos Background Stamp, Gina K Amalgum Ink, Simon Says Stamps Sentiment Labels Dies, Concord & 9th Retro Petals Turnabout Stamp, Versafine Onyx Black ink, Altenew Crystal Clear Embossing Powder, Wink of Stella Glitter Pen, Altenew Artist Markers Set D (which includes: Cosmic Berry, Rose Quartz, Purple Wine, Puffy Heart, Mocha, Rocky Shore, Sand Dune, Volcano Lake, Lagoon).
How I Made It: I stamped the Cosmos background onto Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest, #80 card stock using Gink K Amalgum ink. I then colored in the flowers using the alcohol Artist Markers. Once that was complete, I cut from NSW #80 card stock 3 sets of the word “mom” using the Altenew Bold Alpha Dies. I glued 3 layers of each letter together. I then centered and placed the letters m and o on the card front and die cut. I then die cut the last m. I glued the floral letters on top of the white card stock letters. I then glued the card front onto a card base made of Neenah Solar White, Classic Crest, #110 card stock. Once that was in place I added the letters M-O-M back into the card front making sure all the lines of the flowers matched. While that dried I heat embossed the sentiment onto NSW #80 card stock using Versafine Onyx black ink and Altenew Crystal Clear embossing powder. I adhered the sentiment down using foam tape.
Welcome to Treasures In Letter today. I hope you are well. Today’s card was a gift for a co-worker on her last day at work. She was so nice to work with and I will miss her.
Supplies: AltenewPainted Butterflies Stamp & Die Set, Neat & Tangled sequins, silver mirror card stock, vellum, Versafine Onyx Black ink, Altenew Crystal Clear Embossing Powder, Altenew Ink Spray – Dusk, Altenew Beautiful Peony Stamp Set, Honey Bee Stamps Sunburst A2 Cover Die, Ranger Alcohol Inks: Mermaid, Sailboat Blue, Villainous Pearl Ink, We R Memory Keepers Nesting Circle Dies, Craft Foam, Neenah Solar White #80, #110, a clear double-sided adhesive (used on the vellum, that I am not mentioning the name of it because I don’t find it easy to work with).
How I Made It: I stamped the vellum with the Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with Altenew’s Crystal Clear embossing powder. Once it was cool, I turned it over and from the back of the vellum, using a paint brush, painted with the alcohol ink colors. Once the butterflies were dry, I die cut them using Altenew’s matching dies and cut a second set of butterflies out of plain vellum . With the Honey Bee Sunburst Cover Die, I cut one background out of Neenah Solar White #80 card stock and sprayed it with Altenew ink spray. Using the We R Memory Keepers Circle Dies, I cut one circle the same size as the Sunburst center – out of silver mirror card stock and one circle, one size smaller, out of Neenah Solar White #80 card stock. I centered the Stay Beautiful sentiment on the white card stock circle, stamped it with Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with Altenew’s Crystal Clear embossing powder. I mounted the painted butterflies onto the plain butterfly die cuts with a double-sided adhesive by cutting a tiny piece and hiding it behind the body of the butterfly. By folding up the painted butterfly it makes them float above the paper. I then mounted the face of the card onto craft foam and adhered it to the card base.
In the following photo you can see how the butterflies floated on the card. I hope you liked my card. 🙂
I have had some fun playing with a free stamp set that Altenew sent out so generously to its Altenew Educators. I just love Altenew’s beautiful stamps but even more so, their wonderful staff and designers. They are such a wonderful group!
